Maybe one day Liv and I will be on the same page with the books we read, and we can start an actual book club. I know in the days of Harry Potter we were reading them at the same time and could meet up and say "How do you pronounce Hermione?" For right now though, it's just me.

The first book in my book club is Extremely loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. It's one that I should have read ages ago, since about 6 people have grabbed me by the shirt collar, and yelled in my face "READ IT!" Come to think of it, I believe all three of my roommates freshmen year recommended it. So when I found it in a used bookstore my third day here, I knew it was time.
If I had a book rating system, I would use stars, and I would give this 10 out of 10 stars, and then the Stardazzle award for excellent writing, and then throw another several stars at it for being really interesting. The book tells the story of a family after it loses a member, Thomas, in the World Trade Centers in 9/11. The main narrative is through the eyes of his son, Oskar, a precocious, intelligent boy who speaks french, writes letters to Stephen Hawking, and makes inventions in his notebook that will save people from harm. His spunk and sense of humor makes you wish you could jump into the book with him and explore New York with him.
I don't want to give to much away, because part of the fun of this book is that it's so varied with where it goes and who tells the story, and even what's physically on the page. The author plays around with type, pictures, and colors to make it a more intense reading experience.
That's all for Brianna's Book Club. I hope you all walk down to your friendly local library and check it out!
